Today, Halifax studio Max Inferno have released the latest DLC for their cozy puzzle game "A Little to the Left" called "Seeing Stars". To celebrate that release, this post will showcase a few items in the Archive related to the game.
First off, Daniel Crane, Technology Lead at Max Inferno Games, generously donated three enamel pins to the Archive. Two of the pins are based on "A Little to the Left", with a cat's paw playing with a toy mouse on the card back, and a cute produce sticker on a shiny red apple card back. The third pin is the Max Inferno mascot, a flaming red heart with a very intense facial expression. All three pins were made by local illustration artist Paul G. Hammond. These were made in a limited number and were only distributed among the development team. However, Daniel donated an extra set to the Archive recently and we are extremely grateful!
Lastly, the soundtrack to the game was released this year on a vinyl album and published by iam8bit. The soundtrack was composed by Justin Karas and the vinyl art by, again, Paul G. Hammond.
The album jacket is especially creative as it features die cut holes in the front, creating a "uniquely interactive ‘Tidy Diecut Jacket'." This allows the vinyl owner to decide to have the inner vinyl sleeve turned to either side. One side shows a disorganized array of items where the opposite side has those same items sorted neatly. A very clever way to convey the heart of the game mechanic itself.
Recently, the album design was selected for the Applied Arts 2024 Illustration Awards!
The Archive acquired a copy of the vinyl earlier this year. It was then loaned to the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry, among a number of other archive items, for the "Ready To Play" exhibit. You can still visit the exhibit in Stellarton, Nova Scotia to see the vinyl album, along with other exhibit items. The exhibit is an exceptional way to learn more about Nova Scotian video game industry history and the first of it's kind in the province.
